Lexington Postcards

Postcard Lafayette Hotel Lex KY 1.jpg

This postcard has an image of the Lafayette Hotel in Lexington, KY.

The Lafayette Hotel building has changed drastically since the time this postcard was made. The postcard serves as an important example of how the building and area looked in the past. The building still stands, but it is no longer a hotel. Instead, it is home to the Lexington Fayette Government Center.

Do you have any photos or postcards of places that have changed over the years? How have they changed, and what has stayed the same?

Postcard New Phoenix Hotel Lex KY 1.jpg

The New Phoenix Hotel is featured on this postcard.

The Phoenix Hotel stood on the location since the 1820's, but was demolished in 1981. This postcard is a testament to it's existence in the early to mid-1900's.

Look at the image of the vehicle in front of the hotel. How does it look different from the car you ride in today? Imagine the other differences in technologies of the time.

Postcard Odd Fellows Home Band Lex KY 1.jpg

This postcard shows band members from the Odd Fellows Home in Lexington, KY.

This postcard serves as an example of an item that doesn't give you all of the answers, but gives you enough information to do further research. Currently, I believe that the Odd Fellows Home in this postcard was demolished. This artifact requires further research.

Many items you find in your family packrat's collection will be interesting and possibly important to a particular history. In this case, that history is the one of Lexington, Kentucky and the Odd Fellows Home Band that was featured in this postcard image.
