Freemasons and Elks

Elk Tie 1.jpg

This purple tie is embroidered with gold-colored thread in the form of an elk. This tie was found stored with two other ties in the Bosley Trunk, along with numerous other bits of cloth and clothing.

Research suggests that this tie belonged to someone who was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, a fraternal order. Since this tie was stored in Bosley's Trunk with other personal articles of clothing, it suggests that J. Otis Bosley was a member of The Elks.

This object and its history requires more research. Since Bosley was a Freemason, it is possible that he also belonged to this fraternal order as well.

Did any of your ancestors belong to an order or organization in their city or state? What objects might you look for to support this?
