Used on the Job

KY Laws Made Plain 1.jpg

This book has the name J. Otis Bosley written all over it and throughout it. This was obviously a book used by Bosley, and it covers laws for "farmers, mechanics, and business men." Other artifacts in this exhibit highlight that Bosley might have been all three of these. We are sure he was a farmer, and a mini oil can and car device suggest he might have been a mechanic of sorts. All of this made him a business man, as he had to sell his crops and do business with other individuals. He had enough money to own a car and to buy more than the basics.

Besides teaching us about Bosley, the individual, this book can also teach us about the history of law in Kentucky. Some laws change over time, and this book is an example of laws from 1925.

What laws today might not have existed in 1925? What does this tell you about the changes in culture over the last 80-something years?
